A space efficient dish rack with a rust-proof aluminum frame. Designed for maximum dish capacity when assembled upright; and a drainboard for smaller loads when flat. The utensil cup can be placed on either side of the rack to accommodate any kitchen space. The top rack is optimized for plates while the tall bottom level fits cups and any other dishes. This dish rack can be quickly folded flat for storage in narrow spaces.

Feature Exploration
Focused on identifying innovative folding architectures and unique features for holding dishes. Flat surfaces are best for being able to stack loads of dishes and can fit any type of item, but typical X-frame dish racks only offer angled surfaces and are very short. O-Frames and W-Frames offered lots of flat space but were hard to fold and struggled to hold plates steadily. We landed on a taller modified X-Frame that provided a lower layer drainboard with ample space to fit large items and tall cups.

Details, Touchpoints, and Feature Refinement
After broad ideation, we continued to refine the design, features, and construction. Prototypes were made to test and validate feature functionality. The utensil cup was integrated into the top rack to maintain the compact footprint, and the plate slots sizes were dialed in to fit a variety of plate shapes. The sight of dishes drying can often be messy; the dish rack itself should look clean, simple, modern, and fit with the rest of OXO’s sinkware assortment.
